Ask Amber: Jan. 11
Hi Amber, I heart your column so much! Any word if Damages will air in Canada once Season 3 begins on FX? Also, props for keeping us up to speed on any Nip/Tuck info – please promise you'll send out a breaking news bulletin if you hear anything about the new seasons airing here! Thanks. – Annette
Amber: I heart that you use heart, Annette. So fun. What’s not fun is this next piece of news I’m going to drop on you. Nip/Tuck started last night on A.
OK, maybe that wasn’t so bad. Actually, it’s good — right? The show is back! Anyhow, I learned late last week that Citytv dropped the series and A will air both the first and second parts of the final season from the beginning.
I’m hoping I can brighten up your day some more, too, by confirming that Showcase will air Damages third season beginning Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. ET. Also, I will be attending the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour this Sunday, so if you have questions for the producers or actors, send them my way and I’ll get the scoop.
Hi Amber, can you let me know if and when The Listener and Defying Gravity will return for second seasons? I am a huge fan of both shows. Thanks. – Lisa
Amber: The Listener will definitely return for a sophomore run thanks to CTV’s decision to renew it, despite NBC cancelling it this past summer. However, the network hasn’t announced a return date. I’m thinking summer is likely since the show posted decent Canadian ratings during this time last year, but there’s always a chance of it filling up a Friday night slot in the fall, too.
As for Defying Gravity, there are no current plans to bring it back for a second season thanks to low ratings in both the U.S. and Canada. And I wouldn’t hold my breath — the sets have been torn down. I don’t even know when or if Americans will see the final few episodes; ABC yanked it off the schedule before it could finish its run. Here in Canada, CTV followed suit but let the show run out of episodes on Space instead.
Amber, Can you please let me know when Eric Braeden is returning to Y&R? Thanks – Carole
Amber: Personally, I think we're lucky he's returning at all – seriously, could you ever picture anyone else taking on that role? Anyhow, I checked in with our soaps guru, Nelson Branco, and he tells me that Braeden returns this Thursday, Jan. 14.
Hi Amber, will Slice air Project Runway's new season? Also, will Bravo! air Dexter's fourth season? Thanks so much. – Gail
Amber: The seventh season of Project Runway bows on Lifetime Jan. 14, but as with every other season, Slice won’t air the show until a bit later — Feb. 6 at 10 p.m. ET to be exact. So, if you don’t want to be spoiled, then stay away from those American recap sites — they’re a whole world of trouble for fashionistas.
The same needs to be said for Dexter — with a finale as jaw-dropping as Season 4’s, bloggers and critics went nuts with online coverage. Be sure to steer clear until you either subscribe to The Movie Network or Movie Channel, or buy Season 4 on DVD when it’s released. Currently, Bravo! only holds the rights to air the first two seasons of the show.
I keep hearing that Nadia G of web series Bitchin’ Kitchen will be on Food Network Canada. Is this true, and if so, when will the show air? – Keefe
Amber: From what I can tell, Food Network Canada ordered six half-hour episodes of Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen in early 2009 with the promise they would air during the fall season, but then the première never happened. The new promise is that they will air sometime this year, but nothing has been confirmed.
Amber, I recently found out about the Law & Order: Criminal Intent changes for Season 9. I am shocked and disappointed, but I’m willing to give the new cast a chance. Do you know if NBC plans on airing the new season when it returns to TV in the spring? Also, do you know if any new L&O TV movies are possible? Thanks. – Joe
Amber: So far, NBC hasn’t released any plans to air the series, opting to keep the spotlight on USA Network for now. And while CTV has always aired the series here in Canada, it hasn’t announced any plans to air the ninth season either. I believe the tentative place is March, but that could always change. Hopefully, NBC realizes there is still an audience for this show and brings it to network viewers in the summer.
Also, don’t expect any more movies right now; the last one sort of flopped.
Hi Amber, is Murdoch Mysteries returning? Thanks. – Teresa
Amber: It absolutely is. I believe Citytv is still finalizing a date, but expect it back on TV screens sometime in March, with a fresh creative team in place and a slate of pretty cool guest stars.
Hi there, are the rumours about Eastwick’s cancellation true? If so, when will the last episode air? I really enjoy watching this series and it is just starting to get really good. Thanks. – Megan
Amber: ABC gave Eastwick the old heave-ho a few months ago with the promise it would air all 13 ordered episodes before going dark. However, two episodes remain to be seen, and since Ugly Betty took over its witchy timeslot last week, they may very well never be. While two more episodes might seem promising, executive producer Maggie Friedman admitted they never had enough notice to wrap up “several insanely juicy stories,” so either way you’ll be left wanting more.
That's all for this week!

A TV junkie, Amber will watch just about anything – once. One of her biggest pet peeves is when networks bounce shows around their schedule, leading to an eventual cancellation. While current gems include The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Dexter, True Blood, House, Lost and The Mentalist, she’s still crying over the cancellations of Kitchen Confidential and Pushing Daisies.
Now Amber devotes her time to analyzing the current state of TV and helping readers dissect complicated schedules. She’ll answer a variety of questions about past and present shows, spoilers and casting: anything is — and should be, up for discussion.
