From dramas to comedies, writers love bringing the justice system to prime time TV. And while there are many hit shows documenting the lives of law enforcers, audiences seem to love the storylines of criminals even more.

Take the latest, The Prisoner, for example. The update on the 1967 Patrick McGoohan series will be told in mini-series form, starring Sir Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel (in the McGoohan role).

The Prisoner is about a man with no memory who finds himself trapped in a mysterious place called The Village. The man, named Six, discovers that all of The Village residents have no memory, too, and spends his days trying to escape and return to New York City.

While The Prisoner is more sci-fi fare, television hosts a number of shows with more traditional convict-led storylines.

The three-day event of The Prisoner airs Sunday, Nov. 15, Monday, Nov. 16 and Tuesday, Nov. 17, 8 p.m. ET, AMC.
