Episode: "If There's Anything that I Can't Stand"
The latest duo is the first same-sex pair to move onto the block. Residing in the urban jungle took its toll on Bob, who decided he was moving to the suburbs with his partner Lee.
Surprising move considering the downtown life provides all of the comforts a sophisticated, modern and cultured person could want, gay or not. Making that transition into suburbia signals a transgression into a more family-oriented lifestyle – at least at first glance.
When Bob and Lee moved in next to none other than the clumsy and most desperate housewife, Susan Meyer, it was an excellent opportunity to exaggerate the stereotyped opinions of a clueless suburban soccer mom.
At first Susan didn’t even realize they were gay when Lee called Bob his partner, attempting to redeem herself by acknowledging she knew about gays from cable and liked them. Being Susan, she dug further after insulting them by saying “you people can’t have children.”
Lee’s bitchy responses were a tad harsh – I think he overreacted when Susan attempted a baked-goods apology - although he did try to give Susan a second chance when she offered to help find their missing dog.
I don’t see a neighbourly friendship happening anytime soon – at least not with Susan, but like every other resident on the street I’d say there’s a darker reason than cockroaches and flies that deterred Bob from the city.
