You’d think Dominic Monaghan got his fill of creepy crawlies when he was running around Lost’s Hawaiian jungles. Apparently not, as the English actor has scored a hosting gig on a series that examines the world’s rarest and life-threatening insects.

According to a press release, Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan is a co-production of Canada’s OLN, BBC America and the U.K.’s Channel 5, which has begun filming in such exotic locales as Ecuador, Cameroon, Venezuela, Namibia, Thailand and Borneo. The program will debut later this year on OLN.

“I have been obsessed and interested in nature all my life,” Monaghan said in the presser. “This show brings together years of excited preparation by finally creating a series that demonstrates my love for travel, animals, adventure and people.”

Each of the eight one-hour episodes features the Lost and Lord of the Rings actor as he takes viewers on a quest to get snuggly with such chitinous critters as flesh-slicing army ants in the jungles of Ecuador, scorpions in the deserts of Namibia and venomous centipedes in the caves of Venezuela.

“Dominic’s off-the-beaten-path adventures and danger-loving side are a great fit for OLN and will undoubtedly be a great addition to the station’s adrenaline-pumping action and adventure entertainment,” said Rogers Media Television’s director of original programming, Claire Freeland.

Monaghan is best-known to television watchers for playing rock star, drug addict and plane crash survivor Charlie Pace for 73 episodes of Lost.
