Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is sticking to his guns by not bringing back Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt in the final season, but that doesn’t mean he won’t give a proper send-off to two other former Wisteria Lane residents.
According to TVGuide.com, the ABC series will unveil a final flashback-inspired episode before its last hurrah in May, in which Steven Culp and Lupe Ontiveros will return.
Both actors were present in the show’s inaugural season. Culp played Bree’s late husband Rex Van De Camp, and Ontiveros was Carlos’s meddling mother, whom Bree’s son Andrew accidentally ran down with his car before she could spill the beans about Gabby’s affair with the gardener.
Few details about their reappearances are known other than they will probably have something to do with the ladies facing their former demons. More casting announcements for the final season are expected to come soon.
Cherry has maintained that he wants his series — his baby, really — to go out with a bang. He is keeping the anticipated series finale under wraps, but according to the producer it’s the same finale he’s had in his head since Day 1.
Meanwhile the 49-year-old (he turns 50 next month) is prepping to go to court next week over Sheridan’s claims that her former boss hit her and killed off her character because of personal strife.
A judge previously threw out Sheridan’s sexual harassment suit in 2011.
Desperate Housewives airs Sundays, 9 p.m. ET, on CTV/ABC.
