Call her “Crazy,” but Britney Spears sees herself on Modern Family. The pop singer, who got engaged to Jason Trawick in December, hopes to flex her acting muscles on the hit ABC series sometime soon.
She professed her love of the comedy in a tweet Tuesday afternoon, typing, “I know everybody is excited about the Super Bowl, but I personally can’t wait to see the next episode of Modern Family! Funniest show on TV.”
Soon after, Sofia Vergara, who plays Gloria on the show, retweeted Spears’s tweet. Later, Spears’s manager took to Twitter, writing, “@BritneySpears on Modern Family? What do you guys think?”
Fans of the songstress voiced their adamant approval, giving birth to the hashtag #GetBritneyOnModernFamily. Feeling the momentum, Spears later tweeted “I would love to be on it!”
But despite the Twitter uproar, the prospect of Spears appearing on the show is far from a certainty – so far, nothing has been confirmed by Spears or ABC.
Spears isn’t a stranger to scripted TV. She’s guest-starred on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, playing doctor’s office receptionist Abby in a March 2008 episode. In September 2010, she appeared on Glee as herself, in an episode dedicated to her songs.
In the reality TV realm, she and her then-husband Kevin Federline starred on the much-maligned Britney & Kevin: Chaotic, which aired on UPN from May to June in 2005.
But while Spears’s appearance on Modern Family is still a pipe dream for now, another star’s link to the award-winning comedy is a certainty.
Bryan Cranston, who stars on AMC’s Breaking Bad, will slip behind the camera to direct an upcoming episode of the series, according to TV Line. No details about when the episode will film or air are available yet, and a Modern Family rep declined to comment.
The former star of Malcom in the Middle has directed seven episodes of his former comedy series, and has directed two instalments of Breaking Bad.
