Looks like Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim is going island hopping. Kim, who plays Jin Kwon on the drama set on a mysterious isle, has snagged a lead role in CBS’s remake of Hawaii Five-0.
Kim will play detective Chin Ho Kelly, says The Hollywood Reporter, replacing Kam Fong in the original police series.
The role of detective Steve McGarrett, who was played by Jack Lord on the original show, has not yet been cast. However, Moonlight and Three Rivers star Alex O'Loughlin is in talks for the part.
The new version of Hawaii Five-0 comes from Fringe creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as CSI: NY executive producer and showrunner Peter Lenkov.
When the project was first announced last August, Ed Bernero of Criminal Minds was supposed to head it, but he stepped down from the project.
Kim is the first actor from the main Lost cast to join a new series project this pilot season. The ABC drama is currently in its final sixth season, and is on course for a finale on May 23, 2010.
Hawaii Five-0 aired for 12 seasons, from 1968 to 1980. The 12th season was repackaged into syndication and named McGarrett, after Lord’s character.
It followed the fictional police squad in Hawaii as they hunted down secret agents, criminals, and Mafia syndicates.
