Well, it’s official. ABC has cancelled Ugly Betty.
“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” reads a joint statement from executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson.
“We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
Season 4 for Betty has been a resurgence of sorts. The characters got a new sense of life and the storylines were interesting once again. However, the series got off to a slower-than-slow start when ABC scheduled it on Friday nights.
ABC realized it was dooming the award-winning show, and moved it to Wednesday nights at 10, capping off its hit hump day comedy lineup, but it was a case of too little, too late.
I suppose Betty will at least be able to provide its viewers closure. It’s small consolation though.
