The NFL has once again blocked the Primetime Emmy Awards on NBC.
For the second time since 2006, NBC is shuttling the live broadcast of the Emmys to August; it will now air Aug. 29, 2010.
The move, reports Broadcasting & Cable, was necessitated because the Peacock’s lucrative Sunday Night Football broadcasts have filled up all the available Sunday timeslots.
“NBC is excited to host television’s biggest night with the Primetime Emmy Awards,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s executive vice-president of alternative programming for NBC and Universal Media Studios.
“Scheduling and announcing the telecast for Aug. 29 this early in the awards cycle will give the Television Academy and NBC a head start on creative discussions.”
The Emmys are usually broadcast in September when networks – and viewers’ TVs – are working overtime to show off new and returning series, though NBC snagged its best-ever ratings for the awards in 2006.
Broadcast networks take turns airing the Emmys – and other awards shows – every year.
