Matthew Fox is exhausted.

The actor who plays Dr. Jack Shephard on the hit series, Lost is looking forward to relaxing this summer so he can prepare for the show’s hiatus next year, reported Sun Media.

“I think I’ve been in a lot of things and I’m really high in people’s consciousness right now,” he said. “With the success of Vantage Point, I have the opportunity to put things in development right now so I can prepare for next year’s hiatus. But I’ll be taking a break this summer to let things settle.”

While Lost returns tomorrow after a month off, Fox is also looking forward to the big screen release of Speed Racer, where he co-stars as mysterious Racer X alongside Christina Ricci, Emile Hirsch and Susan Sarandon. The actor is going back and forth filming his ABC series in Hawaii and promoting the effects-laden movie which is set to hit theatres on May 9.

And now that Lost execs have aimed for a 2010 series finale, Fox admits he’s pleased with the timeline.

“I’m fond of the story and proud to be part of it,” he said. “I’m very fortunate to have such an amazing character – he’s very complex.”

“But I also didn’t want to spend 10 years doing it and have the show die a slow, miserable death,” Fox continued. “It has a beginning, a middle and end; it’s not a set-up to lead into another case.”

And if you’re hoping Fox will be back on the small screen after Lost is over, think again. While the actor stated he wasn’t becoming a “snobby film actor,” he revealed, “I believe some of the best writing is going on in television. It’s an incredible place for innovation because they can take chances.”

“But I can’t deal with six to nine months wrapped up in one character anymore.”
