It was pretty funny and I would watch more but only if nothing better was on. Also, I found it to be racist but I don't care about that.
its not racist. there are more racial undertones in prime time shows than in this pilot. stop looking for something negative. its how west indian people talk-if you knew any you would know.

I think the proper term would be "stereotypical" not racist; As someone of Jamaican heritage, I found the repeated use of the word "Bumba" a little annoying, as well as other things depicted throughout the episode (not gonna lie, though, some are true... rent-a-dreads are pretty much like that lolol). I rate this a 6/10 for the pilot episode... my interest is mildly peaked, and yes, I understand that this is a Teletoon DETOUR show, so the swearing is "meh", and I'd probably watch it "if there was nothing else on and I was tired of surfing"

Any more racial stereotypes and I think it would implode. The comedic/action pacing is kinda forced, and the acting/timing needs work....although it's just a pilot afterall. I'm not a fan of this style of symbol animation--things pop too much during dialogue and non-action scenes, especially lipsync. Designs are good though!

That being said, it's a pretty cool concept. The cultural stuff is funny in small doses, but I have a feeling if they were to continue with the stereotype jokes at this speed, they're going to run out of content and it will become redundant pretty quickly.

there were some visual elements that were fantastic. Story, jokes, and visual gags really need some work though...timing was off. There's some talented people working on it, but it needs much stronger direction, story telling, and focus. I'm guessing this was directed by a talented artist without much directing and/or story experience? That's not a dis (unless I'm wrong)...there's potential in the artist(s). The show itself...not so much.

What is Pilot Project

On a recent search for new DETOUR content, we put out an open call for writers and animators to submit their ideas for shows.

Hundreds of pitches, tears, arguments, and sleepless nights later, we have 10 pilots. Each is funny, unique, and absurd – but what we really want to know is which ones you think are the best.

Synopsis

With a cutting edge graphic look and a creative team made up of hot new comedians and musicians, Ninjamaica melds animated action adventure with biting comedy and a bumping musical soundtrack. An amnesiac Rasta with extraordinary fighting powers and an insatiable appetite sets out to rebuild his memory and reclaim his life, all while dodging bullets from his many enemies and possibly making time for a Twinkie.
