NBC is plotting a new Lost for viewers to get caught up in. The problem is that the latest trend dictates viewers don’t want to get caught up at all. As more comedies and procedural dramas surface, serialized shows seem to be headed out the door.

Not the case for the Peacock, who feels it’s found its next big TV series in The Event.

The Event stars Jason Ritter, Blair Underwood, Zeljko Ivanek, Laura Innes and Sarah Roemer, and to be quite honest, I’m not really sure what it’s about. The theatrical calibre pilot featured a plane hijacking, a missing girlfriend, a shooting, kidnapping and an angry president, for starters.

It’s almost reminiscent of last season’s biggest flop, FlashForward, which featured a titillating pilot, but failed to captivate viewers in the long run.

“We’re very cognizant of the audience’s patience and rewarding the audience to keep them hooked,” says executive producer Evan Katz. “There will be flashbacks, but the story will continue to push forward.”

Nick Wauters, another executive producer on the project, says the audience needs to have faith. “We’re going to try and reveal as many answers as we can as we go and set up new mysteries so there will be more immediate answers to questions,” he reveals.

Sorry, where have we heard this before?

The Event debuts Monday, Sept. 20, 9 p.m. ET, Citytv/NBC.
