We all know what happened the last time Christian Slater picked up a leading role on a TV series — it was cancelled before it began.
“I think the impression that might have gone out there was that I didn’t want to do [TV] again, I was done with it, finished,” Slater says. “That was not the truth. I had a great time doing My Own Worst Enemy for as many episodes as we got to do.”
So what does a wannabe TV star do when faced with this situation? Consult mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and jump networks, of course.
That’s more or less what happened when Slater’s manager ran into Bruckheimer during hockey one day, and the actor signed onto the producer’s latest project, The Forgotten.
The Forgotten is about a group of rookie mystery solvers, led by ex-detective Alex Donovan (Slater), who take up cold cases and work to find the killer. Once they’ve done that, it’s about getting justice, according to the producers.
“We feel that with each of these cases it has to be passion that they have because they are doing it on their own time,” says creator and executive producer Mark Friedman. “That’s what appeals to me, it will resonate on a personal level, but it’s only because we care about these people that this show exists.”
The Forgotten begins Tuesday, Sept. 22, 10 p.m. ET, ABC.
