In a roomful of TV critics, it’s hard to crack a smile, especially at eight in the morning. But give them plates full of fresh eggs, bacon, sausage and fruit, and circulate the likes of Cookie Monster and Grover around the room talking to everyone, and watch the dimples and gleaming dentures come out.
Sesame Street turns 40 years old this year, and to celebrate, PBS Kids thought it would be fun to share some of the show’s talent with the cantankerous critics.
On Nov. 10, 1969, PBS launched what would become TV’s biggest success in the children’s programming department, an initiative that’s still developing and thriving today.
In the upcoming 40th season, Sesame will continue bringing us the letter A and the number 24, feature the same characters we've grown to know and love, but also has a few novel plans to unveil as well. CGI, some longer segments and over 30 notable guest stars are on tap over the next year.
Sesame is sticking to what it does best, even for such a monumental anniversary. So there will be no special prime-time episode or bang to kick off this season, but there will be a special look-back video to be released Nov. 10.
