When you think of a reality show about to air on E!, it’s almost safe to assume the series will have tons of drama, fighting, and be bad news for all parties involved.
For Lorenzo Lamas, he’s convinced that showcasing his wacky family through this venue is a chance to repair his strained relationships with his children.
“There’s a chance [son A.J. and I] could make things better,” he says. “I’ve seen more of him in the last couple of weeks than I have in the past few years. I’m looking at it as an opportunity; we have a relationship that could stand to be better.”
“I was like, 'a ****ing TV show to bring us back together?'” adds A.J. “But honestly, if it takes a TV show to bring us back together than so be it.”
It wasn’t easy bringing the five Lamas, Lorenzo, Shayne, A.J., Dakota and Michele together, but in the end, each decided it was better to tell their side of the dysfunctional relationship than to have someone else tell it. “You’re going to see a family dynamic, raw and uncensored, like you’ve never seen before,” says Michele. “It’s not scripted, it’s really the way we are, and that’s the scary thing, really seeing who you are.”
Producer Mike Fleiss (The Bachelor) first approached Shayne, whose acting career had suffered after her win on The Bachelor, and it grew from there. “I had just gotten out of reality and I had gotten so much flack for that. The Bachelor hurt my career. But I said, ‘why not?’ At first it was just my mom and I, and then Dakota liked the idea and jumped on board.”
“Growing up in the public eye has always been a challenge for me,” Lorezo says. “Now that my kids are going to be in that spotlight, it’s going to be a challenge for them too. We are in a sense rebuilding our lives professionally and personally. That’s a human interest story.”
