Eleven years after Seinfeld finished making TV history, Larry David is bringing it back for a special reunion. But it won’t be what anyone thinks.
The original cast members from the groundbreaking sitcom will reunite for several episodes on Curb Your Enthusiasm this season, which returns to HBO for a seventh instalment.
“For years I’ve been asked about a Seinfeld reunion, and I would always say, 'No, we would never do that,'” explains David when asked why he's doing it now. “And then I thought it might be funny to do that on Curb. I started to think of different scenarios. I called Jerry [Seinfeld], who was game, and so I called the others, and we did it.”
According to David, we’ll see the complete evolution of this “episode” – including the read-throughs, rehearsals and parts of the eventual finished product, which will be unveiled on the season finale of Curb. In it, we’ll find out what each character has been up to these past 11 years.
“The reunion is scattered through the season,” David adds. “Jerry’s on five shows, the others will be on at least four, maybe one or two of the others will be on five.”
But Curb's producer/actor/writer/creator admits it was a surprisingly smooth transition back into his Seinfeld days. “Coming up with the right ideas for what’s happened in those 11 years took some thought,” he concedes. “But I think we came up with some interesting stuff.”
Curb Your Enthusiasm returns Sept. 20 on HBO Canada.
