Ever felt bored to death? If you were Jonathan, you would take out a Craigslist ad moonlighting yourself as an unlicensed private detective, and hilarity would ensue.
Bored to Death stars Jason Schwartzman as the aforementioned Jonathan, Ted Danson (Cheers) as his boss, George, and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) as his best friend, Ray. The laughs occur as the three musketeers find themselves in sticky situation after sticky situation when people engage their P.I. services.
The series hails from Jonathan Ames (The Alcoholic), and features an homage of sorts to the dark films throughout cinematic history through certain shots and lighting.
The eight-episode first season also features the acting chops of several notable guest stars, including Olivia Thirlby, Heather Burns, Kirsten Wiig, Parker Posey, Bebe Neuwirth, Oliver Platt, Patton Oswalt and John Hodgman.
Bored showcases a neurotic humour that carries onstage with the three series stars (Schwartzman is plastered across several TV screens via satellite from Toronto), as they banter back and forth, earning numerous chuckles from the tough critics around me.
Does that mean hilarity does in fact ensue on this half-hour series?
Apparently.
Bored to Death deuts Sept. 20 on HBO Canada.
