Michael Eisner wants to put on a series unlike anything else that’s on TV today. And he thinks it can be found in the new stop-motion series Glenn Martin, DDS, the new Nick at Nite series that the network claims is a family show that’s a cross between Family Ties and National Lampoon’s Family Vacation.
Glenn Martin, DDS, which will air on Citytv in October, is a half-hour series based around a dentist and his angst-ridden family as they experience various adventures.
“[Sure,] there is a series of very successful animated shows on Fox,” Eisner says. “In my mind these are real people, on a stage, acting out a half-hour comedy. It just felt right. The more we played it with that, the more people liked it.”
They’d better – even though Glenn Martin doesn’t air until fall, the network already has 20 episodes under its belt. A bold move for what Eisner says is “the most adult half hour that Nickelodeon has ever done.”
Along for the ride is SNL alum and Weeds star Kevin Nealon, who lends his voice to the project. “Even though the laugh track is there, those are real people laughing,” he deadpans to the room. “And like Happy Days, it’s stop-action.”
Glenn Martin, DDS airs Saturdays, 8 p.m. ET on Citytv beginning Oct. 3.
