Paul Walker wants to be a marine biologist, or at least he did, until he fell into acting.

So it’s only natural that the Fast and the Furious actor attach himself to National Geographic’s second annual Expedition Week with Expedition Great White.

In the special, Walker, a deckhand, races against time to haul in sharks the size of an SVU, throwing them through a barrage of tests and then releasing them mere minutes later, virtually unharmed.

“I’ve seen and done a lot of really cool things and I’ve never experienced anything quite like this,” Walker says. “Just the sheer awesomeness of the great white shark... it’s put a damper on my surfing.”

But when asked how he felt about sharks in general after having done this series, Walker admits they still scare him. “I prefer being in my element with them out of their element,” he laughs. “After witnessing what I witnessed I have too much respect for them.”

Other topics to be covered during the week-long showcase include Hunt for the Samurai Subs, an expedition seeking out top-secret Japanese subs lost after the A-bombs were dropped; Mars: Making the New Earth; Jesus Prophesy, which features a new analysis of a “Dead Sea Scroll on Stone"; and Search for the Amazon Headshrinkers, which features the only known footage of actual human heads being shrunk.

National Geographic’s second annual Expedition Week begins in November.
