If Joy Behar could do a show today, she wouldn’t be opposed to talking about Michael Jackson. “[That issue] still has legs,” she declares. “It doesn’t have to be the whole hour but I’m interested in telling the story.”
After 12 years serving as one of The View’s co-hosts, Behar is definitely ready to tell some stories of her own, which she’ll have the opportunity to do thanks to her new show on CNN, The Joy Behar Show.
Although the format of the new series has yet to be determined, it will air seven nights a week, and shot in similar style to The View in that only one night will be pre-taped — with the six other instalments serving as live episodes.
“I have so many things I’m interested in talking about. It could be Paris Hilton, it could be politics. I don’t know, it depends on what’s going on that day.”
The series is in addition to Behar’s usual View gig, which the host claims can be crazy at times. “The show is a revolving cocktail party. I’m a guest at my own party, and I’m kind of there in the middle of it. It really has put me over the edge to tell you the truth.”
The bottom line is that Behar just wants to be herself on her new show. She doesn’t necessarily care whether or not her guests agree with her since “there’s nothing more boring than that,” but she does want to address real issues in a frank way, especially after all of the controversy surrounding The View in recent years.
“[Rosie] was a very interesting year to me. It was very volatile. She came in and ruffled some feathers. I think Barbara got some feathers ruffled, too. At the end, it seemed to be amiable. How do I feel about it? I could have done without it.”
The Joy Behar Show premieres Sept. 28, 9 p.m. ET, HLN.
