The first time I got a taste of Hall and Oates was with my father’s tape of Private Eyes. “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”, “Head Above Water”, and of course, “Private Eyes” and I was a fan, even at that early age.

It’s been a couple of decades — almost three, in fact — since that album was released, but it’s not like the duo have gone anywhere. The two have appeared as themselves on Will & Grace, were spoofed on WWE Raw, and have been guests on many talk shows — as well as pumping out more music. But the two will be back on the small screen on The Cleveland Show, serving as the voices of reason and temptation.

“They play an angel and a devil over Cleveland’s shoulders and they give Cleveland conflicting advice on what to do about a touchy situation,” said co-creator and executive producer Mike Henry in a conference call with the media. “Auntie Momma is a little bit larger than life and let’s just say that Cleveland’s dad, Freight Train, is immediately enamoured with Auntie Momma, and Cleveland finds out a secret about her and he’s having a dilemma on whether to tell his dad about it or not.”

In the show’s holiday episode, Cleveland celebrates his first Thanksgiving with his new family, including his own parents, Cookie and Freight Train, along with Donna’s Auntie Momma, all of whom make surprise visits to shake things up in Stoolbend. However, the holiday gets complicated when Roberta and Federline decide to celebrate on their own, and Cleveland’s impression of Auntie Momma is forever changed.

So what’s a guy to do? Well, ask Hall and Oates, naturally.

“Daryl tells him to go ahead and tell his dad and look for honesty in their relationship and his dad will respect him, and John goes ahead and tells him to let his dad get into some trouble,” divulges Henry, who also provides the voice of Cleveland. “It’s personally my favourite episode so far, and I think the funniest.”

SPOILER ALERT!

“It’s hard not to give it away, but yeah, maybe Auntie Momma’s got a penis,” laughs Henry. “There! I’ve given it away.”

Well, how can you NOT tune in now?

The Cleveland Show airs Sundays, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, Global/Fox.
