Pre-strike: The Zach Braff sitcom was rolling along, still as quirky as ever. J.D. and Elliot were forced to re-examine their feelings for each other, Kim had her and J.D.’s baby but the two eventually broke up, and Turk realized he wasn’t a kid anymore.

Post-strike: Probably one of the shows that has suffered the most during the strike, the seventh season of Scrubs was supposed to be a fond farewell to a critically acclaimed show. But because of the three-month hiatus, the series wasn’t able to wrap up its stories in the amount of time NBC was willing to give the ratings-challenged show. With no promotion or hype for the sitcom’s final season, the rumour mill has been in overdrive as Scrubs’ final NBC episode airs on May 8.

But for all you fans of the Sacred Heart gang, don’t fret. Despite NBC’s lack of respect for the series, enter ABC. Though nothing has been confirmed, ABC, NBC, ABC Studios and Scrubs were in negotiations that would allow ABC to place an 18-episode order for an eighth – and most likely, final – season, to begin airing next fall. Stay tuned for an official word on that…

Character Development: Carla and Elliot’s efforts to convince the board to not force Kelso into retirement were unsuccessful, and Cox moved into the role of Chief of Medicine, but won’t dig all the problems that go along with the gig. Meanwhile, Carla and Turk discused having more children and also, while seeking out a former patient, J.D. and Elliot realized their relationship has changed dramatically.

Cliffhangers/Wrap Up: The final Scrubs episode that airs on NBC on May 8 will pay homage to The Princess Bride in a Shrek-like spoof kind of way that only Scrubs could pull off. Dr. Cox concocts a bedtime story for his son, which features the Sacred Heart staff. Princess Elliot’s handmaiden becomes ill and the Village Idiot (J.D.) must rescue her. But the two – with the help of the two-headed Turla (Turk and Carla) and the Giant (Janitor) – must get past the Dark Lord (Kelso) first. But it’s the brave knight in shining armour (Dr. Cox, naturally) that will eventually save the day.
