CHOPPED, Wednesdays, 10 p.m. ET, Food Network Canada

Debuts: Sept. 2

Who’s in it: Ted Allen (Food Detectives, Iron Chef America: The Series).

What’s it about: Four up-and-coming chefs turn everyday items — hidden until the last minute — into three-course culinary extravaganzas under a time limit. After each course is judged, one chef is eliminated until the last man or woman standing claims victory. And $10,000.

Reminds us of: Iron Chef America: The Series and Chef Worthy.

The buzz: Iron Chef is a hot commodity, and Chopped has chefs that are just below hotshot, Iron Chef status competing, which is a nice twist. We love Allen when he is judging how people cook (Iron Chef), rather than the science of food (Food Detectives), so Chopped fits him like a glove. The first episode was full of drama, despair and triumph. We want seconds!
