ASK AIDA, Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m. ET, Food Network Canada

Debuts: Sept. 1

Who’s in it: Aida Mollenkamp and “tech guru” Noah Starr.

What’s it about: Cooking expert Aida Mollenkamp hosts this interactive cooking show in which she prepares meals while answering questions via viewer-submitted videos and e-mails.

Reminds us of: Christine Cushing Live.

The buzz: Aida is a spitting image for Cushing with her short haircut; it’s really eerie. With respect to what was covered in the first episode, Aida showed one couple how to make French fries that won’t get soggy, and discussed which potatoes are best for roasting, baking and mashing. Energetic and full of energy, Aida doesn’t talk down to viewers during her instruction, and the interplay between she and Starr, who handles incoming e-mails and videos, is great. Aida is a welcome addition to the excellent pre-dinner programming Food offers, and should be a hit with folks in Canada.
