DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS SUDS FLASHES Y&R’s Wilson Bethel fired! But Signy Coleman returns! Lesli Kay out on Venice! • Sadly, hot newcomer Wilson Bethel confirms to Soapgeist that he is indeed leaving Y&R. The pec-licious actor tells Suds, “I’ve had a great time on this show.” On the plus side of things, according to head writer Maria Arena Bell, the Emmy-nominated mistress teases Suds exclusively that Emmy-nominated actress Signy Coleman will be returning to Y&R in a special episode surrounding Adam Newman! Yes, Emmy alert! Can’t wait. I demand to know more about Adam’s childhood. You know it’s sick. Really sick. Like killing an animal sick.
• Insider buzz at the Daytime Emmy Awards is that One Life will indeed be cancelled this December. ABC doesn’t comment on rumours. Well, unless it suits them. |
 |
• GH head writer Robert Guza tells an excited Soapgeist that superstar Vanessa Marcil signed a two-year deal and to expect very “big story” for her. “You’re right — I was screaming outside her window for her to come back each night,” he enthused about his muse.
• Is Bradford Anderson leaving GH? That’s the online rumour at the moment, but don’t worry, Spixie fans — Anderson denies he’s out when queried by a concerned Soapgeist. Whew.
• Y&R’s Lauralee Bell is bringing the chirp back to Genoa City as Cricket/Christine this summer. Head writer Maria Arena Bell tells Soapgeist that at this juncture Lauralee’s comeback is short-term.

• Sorry, Venice fans — Emmy winner Lesli Kay will not appear in Season 2 of the hit web soap. However, producer/creator/star Crystal Chappell assures Soapgeist that Kay will re-appear in Season 3 — which isn’t that far away, so don’t hate just yet, ‘yo!
• AMC’s Chrishell Stause and long-time boyfriend Graham Bunn have split up, according to the gorgeous actress. • Life & Style is reporting that Eva La Rue and businessman Joe Cappuccio tied the knot during an intimate seaside ceremony in Zihuatenejo, Mexico, on June 26. The former AMC fan fave “floated down the sandy aisle wearing a stunning one-shouldered Oday Shakar gown, which she helped design for the joyous occasion,” says the tab. |
AWARDS SHOW CENTRAL
The Suds-over — CBS murders the competition at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards!
CBS, which graciously gambled on re-airing the Daytime Emmy Awards after a year of network turmoil, dominated the embattled 37th annual awards show last night.
| Hosted by multiple Emmy winner, Regis Philbin, daytime’s best and brightest gathered appropriately in Sin City at the Las Vegas Hilton to bestow the golden hardware.
For the second year in a row, B&B won best drama series. Earlier in the evening, B&B chief Bradley Bell accepted his first outstanding writing award trophy. Bell, who was Emmy-less for most of his soap career, picked up another statue this past Saturday at the Creative Arts and Entertainment Emmy Awards for outstanding music composition and direction, increasing his Emmy total to four career wins. |

But the most palpable moment of the night came when, days after World Turns filmed its emotional final episode, World Turns super-couple, Maura West and Michael Park took home daytime’s highest acting honours, lead actress and actor, respectively. This is West’s second Emmy (she previously won in this category in 2007), while this marked Park’s first Emmy win in three nominations (second in the lead actor category). “I’m so happy for Michael,” said odds-on fave Peter Bergman to Soapgeist at the Y&R post-Emmy party. Likewise, Emmy winner Christian LeBlanc enthused, “Michael deserved it. It’s about time.”
On the downside, NBC came up empty-handed during the main Emmy telecast, while ABC took home only two major awards (directing, younger actress — Julie Marie Berman) despite GH’s 18 Emmy nominations.
