SUDSIEST QUOTES OF THE WEEKEND
“I was 12 when my first job offer was to be on a soap opera. I turned it down because I didn’t want to develop bad habits.”
—Claire Danes disses the soap medium in a New York Times article
Translation: The only soap I watched was Passions.
“And so Victor takes Jabot yet again. Boy, aren’t you surprised that Victor’s won? I’ll bet the audience is shocked.”
—Peter Bergman on Y&R’s latest surprise plot development in Soap Opera Digest
Translation: Damn Eric Braeden! Damn him!
“Sexy is more than being shirtless in love scenes. Soaps have gotten away from the romance that’s needed, just the basic story of a man and woman in love.”
—Steve Burton in a Soap Opera Digest story about the lack of sex in the afternoon
Translation: Or two men in love, like Jason and Sonny, or Jason and Franco.
WEEKEND SUDS FLASHES
Is Missy Reeves joining her hubby at GH? Stuart Damon jumps to DAYS!
• JFP is on fire! GH knew what they had in Scott Reeves and wisely put the actor on contract status. Does this mean Reeves’s wife, Missy, will be looking for soap work, too? In this week’s Soap Opera Digest, Reeves says not necessarily. “She’s loving being a mom for now,” he answers. “You never know. Maybe she’ll drop in to Port Charles? That’d be pretty cool.” Perhaps GH can recast Felicia Jones with the Daytime Emmy-nominated actress, which would be a nice wink to the audience since Reeves’s former co-star, Matt Ashford, played Felicia’s boyfriend Tom Hardy back in the day.
• Remember when everyone thought Mary Jane was really Diane Jenkins on Y&R? Well, Susan Walters will reprise Diane Jenkins on Feb. 26 and March 1. Wonder what that’s about …
• Did you know that that’s soap vet and acting coach Larkin Malloy’s voice during all the World Turns bumpers/voiceovers?
• It’s raining soap vets over in Salem! According to ABC Soaps In Depth, Stuart Damon will make his way to DAYS. No word on which role the Emmy winner will envelope. Let’s pray it’s not another mobster but a love interest for Maggie, Vivian or Kate.
• Here we go again! The biggest cliffhanger in the soap world these days is whether or not the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air. According to an interview with Associated Television International’s James Romanovich with On Air On Soap's Michael Fairman, an offer has arisen to televise the telecast internationally. The self-professed soap fan tells Fairman, “As of today, I can tell you that if we go forward, I have a television offer for the event in prime time nationwide, plus a second run option on a sister broadcaster should we opt for this. We are still awaiting NATAS’s final decision about the venue and the concept.”
• Is Dahlia Salem GH’s latest BrendaBot? That’s what Soaps In Depth is suggesting in its latest issue. The fan magazine wonders in print if the former Another World star’s federal prosecutor character, Claire Walsh, may provide Sonny with some much-needed sexual prosecution.
• “You got that?” Eric Braeden celebrates 30 years as the Moustache on Y&R. Daytimeconfidential.com gathered together some of the Emmy winner’s greatest moments here. Enjoy!
