On your mark, get set, vote!

While the 36th annual Daytime Emmy Awards are still without a home at press time, the controversial voting process has officially begun.

There are a few changes this year. The biggest? Unlike last year when each show could submit up to three pre-nominees, this year only two pre-nominees are allowed. An in-studio paper ballot chose pre-nominees and no reels were involved in this stage.

NATAS rep, Brent Stanton tells TVGuide.ca that Passions was eligible for Emmy consideration, but no one chose to submit themselves. He says, “The only entry we received was from hairstylist, Bobby Grayson — and I’m glad because they were a good team. I was hoping that their music folk might have entered for song or music direction, too — another great team, but they didn’t end up submitting.”

The big story this year will be whether or not Guiding Light actors will be able to secure final nominations with their new production model.

Nominations will be announced sometime in late April. Later this week, NATAS is expected to reveal their broadcast host, and a date for the Daytime Emmy Awards.

The following pre-nominees will submit one episode from the 2008 calendar, along with a 200-word description of storyline and character:
