Live from Hollywood last night, America’s Got Talent put five acts through, sent seven home, and had two special performances, by High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale and Daughtry.

The first 10 minutes were spent re-capping yesterday’s performances, and then came the first decision. It was between pianist Jeffrey Ou and 17-year-old singer Bri, and in my opinion it was a big WTF moment when Ou was picked for the finals over Bri. She may have taken it like a champ, but I was pretty upset. I mean, let’s be serious; who in their right mind would pay to see a kid play piano in Vegas? Just give him his own YouTube channel and let’s call it a day.

Next up was Ashley Tisdale performing her song “It’s All Right, It’s OK.” I’m not saying I’ve ever seen High School Musical or jumped on the Disney star train, but I knew the words, and was tapping along; it was a fun performance. Side note: Judging by the outfit she’s wearing I think I now understand why little girls are dressing the way they are, whatever happened to Northern Getaway? (Who’s with me?)

The next decisions were between illusionist Jay Mattioli and David Johnson (the guy with a comedy act that includes a tribute to The Golden Girls). Those two guys didn’t stand a chance against bass man Lawrence Beamen. This guy has been praised by the judges time and time again and is clearly an American favourite, as he was put through after his performance of “You Are So Beautiful.”

Just before Daughtry performed their new hit “No Surprise,” America made the best choice and put through flaming guitar jugglers Mario & Jenny over singer Marcus Terrell and his cheesy back-up singers.

The girl rock group G Force had an awesome eight-year-old drummer, but their vocals didn’t cut it and neither did the wild card dance group U4ria Crew. Crazy body-bending nerd Hairo Torres won the hearts of America in this round.

Even though those cute girls of Pixie Mystere have loads of talent, the Vegas strip isn’t a place for little girls. The dance crew FootworKINGz were rightly put through to the finals, wowing viewers with their glow-in-the-dark, insane moves.

I think America did a fairly good job in putting through the five semifinalists, Jeffrey Ou, Lawrence Beamen, Mario & Jenny, Hairo Torres and FootworKINGz. There are five more spots in the finals, stay tuned to see if America knows their talent.

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on A/NBC
