Finally, some bona fide talent set up back to back to back.
After weeks where the chaff outnumbered the wheat, those with true talent shone through for the judges and audiences in Tacoma and New York City.
There was the woman who was turned down when she tried out for a cruise ship gig; the person hiring didn’t like the way she looked. There was the girl who came out to sing accompanied by a harp. There were the five dancing dudes from Indianapolis who had been scorned by everyone back home. And there were the two unassuming college buddies who came out to play the guitar and dance.
All performed, and all blew the judges’ – and the audiences’ – preconceived notions about what their skills were, out of the water.
This is why a show like America’s Got Talent is so vital to primetime television.
Regular folk, warts and all, have an equal shot at winning $1 million dollars. Sure it’s in the hands of that crazy Hoff, Sharon and Piers trio, but still.
Talent shows that you can be chubby, skinny, scarred from surgery, geeky or ordinary, and there’s a chance that you can succeed.
Well done, NBC.
