Last night, the search for America’s next greatest fad shifted gears to bustling New York City. Viewers were not only treated to the hopeful antics of vying contestants, but Nick Cannon unveiled the debut of wife Mariah Carey’s brand new music video for her single “Obsessed.”

In it, the diva plays herself and a creepy Eminem look-a-like who stalks her, snaps secret photos, and follows her to work functions. The mockery was completely on purpose, and was in response to the rapper’s song “Bagpipes in Baghdad,” from his new album Relapse, in which Eminem spouts he could take back Carey from Cannon if he wanted to.

Personally, I think the Brooke Hogan diss video attacking Heidi Pratt is more effective, but that’s just my take. I’m sure more people will purchase the Carey album anyway.

But the video didn’t detract from the night’s performances (plus it was leaked online earlier in the day), and another handful of hopefuls made it through to Vegas despite some severe misses.

After suffering through contestant Jeffrey’s jeer-worthy version of “Boombastic” and a slew of other terrible, terrible acts, Tallan Noble Latz impressed with his blues-strumming guitar talents. Hey, if The Hoff thinks you have a long career ahead of you, you should hassle him about it.

Of course, for every talent we, the audience, suffer through more terrible auditions, but in the end, the balancing act and the magician weren’t too shabby, and earned themselves tickets to Vegas.

All in all last night’s episode was just OK. It will be interesting to see if the series can keep up the ratings win it saw last week (it’s Tuesday and Wednesday editions placed first and third on the scale, respectively) without the eight-year-old Eleishas and the 75-year-old Grandma Lees.
