It’s a very special episode of American Idol this week. OK, it’s not, it’s just another audition show. We begin with Ryan gushing about how tonight’s episode is a first – two audition spots, San Juan, Puerto Rico and New York City – in one jam-packed show.

What he neglects to add is that the talent pool was so shallow in Puerto Rico that Idol actually wasted its time going there, and won’t be back.

First, the highlights:

- Jorge from San Juan, who wows the judges with his operatic voice
- Melinda, who not only can sing, but likes to dance naked. She gets my vote!
- Jackie, whose sultry tone impressed everyone but Simon. At this point in the show, the filters on the windows behind the judging foursome collapsed. LOL.
- Monique, whose little brother is as charming as her voice is beautiful.

Now the lowlights:

- Adeola, who quit her job as a bank teller because she is convinced she will be the next American Idol. Hopefully, they will take her back. In fact, Simon goes the extra mile and asks Adeola’s boss if he will take her back. He does. Whew.
- Jessika, who came all the way from Michigan to San Juan to try out, and clearly wasted the airfare for herself and her entire bristolboard carrying family.
- Joel, who fancies himself a funnyman in Puerto Rico. Simon isn’t impressed, and sends Joel on his way.
- Nick, whose glittery shirt and bad singing hurts Simon’s ears, yet – inexplicably – gets a gold ticket from the other three.
- Alexis, who auditioned last year, was turned down and let loose with an expletive-laced tirade. Now she’s back with a new attitude…erm no. Expletives fly.

In the end, nine contestants from San Juan are headed to Hollywood, joining 26 from NYC.

Next week it’s Hollywood week, and I can’t wait.
