This isn’t the first time I’ve had to admit I’m not a faithful watcher of Dancing with the Stars. If I’m at home flipping on a Monday night, I usually settle on Chuck, or The Big Bang Theory/How I Met Your Mother combo. But while Denette was off at the taping of So You Think You Can Dance Canada (lucky girl), yours truly had the duties of watching the ABC fiasco.

I say “fiasco” because this season is by far the worst one we’ve endured as far as talent goes. Where are the Mel B.s, the Kristi Yamaguchis, the Apolo Anton Ohnos and the Emmitt Smiths? No one, absolutely no one, is blowing me away this year with their killer dance moves.

Has the talent pool run dry or does the show need a new casting director? I love Cloris Leachman, to the point where I think Denette wants to punch me, but even I have to admit she doesn’t belong on this show anymore. Susan Lucci, although queen of the daytime scene, is terribly stiff when it comes to shaking her skeletal frame. And Warren makes my heart melt, but he doesn’t exactly portray a stellar “groove thang.”

Even Brooke Burke, whom everyone seems to love, is missing that special element past winners had. Lance and Lacey are cute, and I will admit that they’re leading this talent pool, but for some reason Lance just doesn’t stand out head and shoulders, to use a tired cliché.

One couple that I do enjoy watching is Cody and Julianne, but now Julianne has to undergo surgery to remove her appendix, as she announced after last night’s performance. It’s worrisome because they’ll have less time to rehearse, which could obviously impact their performance. And TMZ is reporting something about an ovarian cyst, which hasn’t been confirmed, but would definitely have a greater impact…

What do you think, are you enjoying this season? Or are you like me, and feel as though something is lacking? amber@tvguide.ca
