I fancy myself an awards show junkie. I’ve watched them all, but my favourite of all the ceremonies, the Golden Globes, is airing this weekend. And to make the night even better, the funniest man in the world (yup, he should patent that), Ricky Gervais, is hosting.

So in an effort to gear myself up — and all you other awards show fans — here are my picks of who and what I think will take home the fancy statuette come Sunday night.

Best Television Series, Drama
Big Love
Dexter
House
Mad Men
True Blood

Who should win: Dexter, but I’m not sure if the Foreign Press Association is ready to award a show that centres around a serial killer.
Who will win: Mad Men, because it raised its game last season … plus, it’s a safe bet.

Best Televison Series, Comedy or Musical
30 Rock
Entourage
Glee
Modern Family
The Office

Who should win: Modern Family. Despite it using the gimmicky mockumentary style, it still brings laugh-out-loud laughs for almost its entire half hour.
Who will win: Glee’s got too much buzz swirling around for it not to win.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Simon Baker, The Mentalist
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House
Bill Paxton, Big Love

Who should win: Michael C. Hall because no one makes a serial killer more likable than the Six Feet Under alum.
Who will win: Hugh Laurie. What’s that saying? Three times a charm …

Best Actress in a Television Series, Drama
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Glenn Close, Damages
January Jones, Mad Men
Anna Paquin, True Blood
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

Who should and will win: Julianna Margulies because despite her subtle portrayal of a scorned politician’s wife, her character still manages to be a force to be reckoned with.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Thomas Jane, Hung
David Duchovny, Californication
Matthew Morrison, Glee

Who should win: Matthew Morrison … if those voting watched the scene where Will finally learned his wife was faking her pregnancy.
Who will win: Alec Baldwin. Again. Yawn.

Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Toni Collette, United States of Tara
Courteney Cox, Cougar Town
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Lea Michele, Glee

Who should win: Toni Collette, because she has to tackle 19 characters and makes each one completely different than the other.
Who will win: Edie Falco. Come on! She’s Edie Falco!

Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Grey Gardens
Into the Storm
Little Dorrit
Taking Chance
Georgia O'Keeffe

Who should and will win: Grey Gardens because the Foreign Press loves American history, pure and simple.

Best Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Kevin Bacon, Taking Chance
Kenneth Branagh, Wallander: One Step Behind
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Endgame
Brendan Gleeson, Into the Storm
Jeremy Irons, Georgia O'Keeffe

Who should and will win: Brendan Gleeson was absolutely dead-on as Winston Churchill.

Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Joan Allen, Georgia O'Keeffe
Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens
Jessica Lange, Grey Gardens
Anna Paquin, The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler
Sigourney Weaver, Prayers for Bobby

Who should and will win: Jessica Lange came out of seclusion and her take on Big Edie was uncanny.

Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
Michael Emerson, Lost
Jeremy Piven, Entourage
William Hurt, Damages
John Lithgow, Dexter

Who should win: Neil Patrick Harris. He’s had a great year; what better way to cap it off than awarding his portrayal of womanizer Barney Stinson?
Who will win: John Lithgow; he injected new life into the series.

Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Jane Adams, Hung
Rose Byrne, Damages
Jane Lynch, Glee
Janet McTeer, Into the Storm
Chloe Sevigny, Big Love

Who should win: Jane Lynch. Her take on Sue Sylvester is hilarious and Lynch makes her a fleshed-out character when she could easily be one note.
Who will win: Rose Byrne. After snubs at various ceremonies, this is Byrne’s time to shine.
