There are some women on TV that just ooze sex appeal. Whether it’s in the way they dress, do their hair, wear their makeup or flirt with men, it’s all about confidence. Mad Men’s Joan Holloway and Modern Family’s Gloria Delgado-Prichett have mastered the art of being this type of sultry vixen. But there are some female characters who completely downplay their looks. They prefer wearing a T-shirt and jeans with their hair pulled in a ponytail, than a cleavage-heaving low-cut dress and dolled up face. They’re low-maintenance, no-fuss kinda gals. Or what a new CW reality makeover show likes to call a “Plain Jane.”
Plain Jane, which debuts this week on The CW, is hosted by British fashion expert Louise Roe (you may have seen her as Olivia Palermo’s competition on MTV’s The City) who guides fashion victims to becoming sexy and confident, and hopefully, landing the man of their dreams.
TVGuide.ca scoured the boob tube searching for our favourite “Plain Janes.” These ladies can rock a buttoned-up cardigan, black rimmed glasses or comfy jeans just as much as the next blonde bombshell can strut in stilettos. The Office’s Pam Beesley, 30 Rock’s Liz Lemon and even Fringe’s Olivia Dunham are A-typical when it comes to sexy looks on TV and we love them just as they are. Casual, comfy and carefree.
