It was 41 years ago on July 20, 1969 when Cmdr. Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin created history by becoming the first humans to step foot on the moon. An estimated 500 million people worldwide watched this televised event, which was the largest audience for a live broadcast at that time.
This week while we all memorialize Apollo 11 orbiting the moon and the astronauts making “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” we at TVGuide.ca are commemorating the momentous accomplishment in our own special style by rocketing a few TV characters and stars out of this world and off of our favourite shows.
You know the ones — the characters that just annoy the heck out of you. The stick in the mud’s, the Debbie Downers, the people who just don’t mesh with the rest of the cast. A grating gesture or irksome habit of a character can instantly ruin the chemistry of a series, leaving viewers frustrated and wondering why they’re even on the program in the first place.
