It’s hard to believe another season of Dragons’ Den is already drawing to a close.

The CBC reality show, which features entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to a panel of business experts (the “Dragons”) in the hopes of securing financial investments, kicked off it’s fifth season in January and now, just two-and-a-half short months later, the finale is upon us.

Hosted by Dianne Buckner, this Wednesday’s episode, dubbed “The Road to Riches,” will feature the personal and emotional journeys of the show’s five Dragons from their humble beginnings to self-made success. So, whether or not you agreed with all of the panel’s decisions over the last few weeks, at least now you’ll have a better understanding of who they are and why they chose to invest in the products they did.

And just who are these Dragons, you ask? This season was comprised of Arlene Dickinson, CEO of marketing firm Venture Communications; Robert Herjavec, president of The Herjavec Group; Kevin O’Leary, founder of mutual fund company O’Leary Funds (and co-host of CBC News Network’s The Lang and O’Leary Exchange); Jim Treliving, the chairman and owner of the Boston Pizza restaurant chain; and W. Brett Wilson, the co-founder and chairman of FirstEnergy Capital Corp.

Definite business bigwigs, to say the least!

Anyhow, talk of Dragons’ Den got us thinking about other tycoons of TV past and present, some fictional and some real-life.
