In answer to a question I’m sure has been keeping you awake at night, there are two types of day-to-day excursions that can send me into a euphoric state.
Grocery shopping is one (gotta love the ice cream aisle!), and shopping for clothes and sundry beauty products is the other. Sigh … shoes and bath oils and fancy frocks … oh my.
So, with hands eager yet in dire need of a manicure, last week I tore open the press package for Anna & Kristina’s Beauty Call, airing Tuesday on W Network.
You may recognize the hosts – the series boasts consumer advice experts Anna Wallner and Kristina Matisic, who’ve also fronted W series The Shopping Bags and Grocery Bags. (Check out TVGuide.ca’s interview with the ladies about Beauty Call.)
Bent on doling the secrets to beauty on a budget, Wallner and Matisic use their product-testing acumen to sort through fashion and beauty claims promising fuller lashes, less cellulite, slimmer hips, fuller lips and the like (can assurances of a Mensa-worthy IQ be far behind?).
In the première episode, the twosome tackle the dos and don’t of accessorizing, take a peekaboo inside the high-heeled shoe, and create fashion looks for a 45-year-old film industry lawyer using a $500 budget.
Bonus: their outfits will be judged by Lisa Tant the editor-in-chief of Flare magazine, and upcoming judges include Pink Tartan designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran and Brian Hill, the president and CEO of Aritzia.
And you can expect plenty of tips for wallet-friendly style courtesy of high-profile fashion insiders – two who will click-clack their chic little shoes onto Wallner and Matisic’s stage are designers Carolina Herrera and Yigal Azrouel.
Regular segments in the half-hour include “Anatomy Of” (which examines clothing’s structure), “Beauty and the Best” (testing beauty products) and “Copy Cats” (finding good imitations of iconic items such as the Cartier Tank Watch).
Looks like I’m going to have to get that manicure after all, so I can start my viewing marathon in style – at least my remote control will be appropriately beguiled.
